Mounted Police at London Horse of the Year Show

Date January 22, 2008

I saw this video over on Equine Spirit’s blog and just sat watching, mesmerized. This is the Metropolitan Mounted Police performing a drill at the 2006 London International Horse Show. It will blow your mind.

These horses do all kinds of crazy things … jumping through fire, jumping side by side, jumping towards each other over the same jump … that most horses in their right minds would never think about doing. These ones didn’t bat an eye, which I suppose is a good thing since they are police horses. Where can I get me one of those horses?

This display combines a whole lot of things I love: riding horses, jumping horses, marching band-like drill, intricate dancing-like movements, athleticism, and a little bit of theatre-like showmanship. Watch it! :-)

Sounds like a lot of training went into those horses. That’s pretty cool.
