As A Woman Bonds With A Horse …

As a woman bonds with a horse,
Attempts to understand and interpret …
she is nurturing, facing her fears,
and moving beyond boundaries.
Essential lessons in any relationship.

Then in this new, quiet communication
of touch and thought
intuition and expressions …
she finds at last,
her Self.

~Kim McElroy

I can certainly relate to learning to nurture, face fears, and move beyond boundaries through working with horses.

I can also relate to finding my Self through horses.

The work that I’ve done with horses throughout my life has been one of the single most influential factors in shaping me to be who I am today. It’s not only shaped my passions, it’s shaped my work ethic, my fitness, my competitiveness, my ability to lose with grace (except in board games against my hubby), my confidence, my relationships.

My faith, my family and friends, my education, my work,  my marriage, and my music are also critical factors in shaping and driving Who I Am. But so much of how I think, how I react, and how I work I can trace back to my experience with horses. They are truly some of the greatest teachers.

Smells Horsey recently posted an article written by a mom about the woman her 16-year-old daughter has become through working with horses. It’s a great tribute to the benefits of equine relationships and care.  I certainly hope people could say the same things about me.

What have you learned from growing up with horses?

    Wonderful post !

What have I learned in my 35 wonderful years with horses?
    Patience, kindness, calmness, confidence, consistency.
Where else could we learn the things that make our lives so much better.

just wanted you to know that your writing here has been plagiarized by Cid Busarow, the owner of Fish Creek House, who keeps about a dozen blogs, all containing plagiarized writings. She has been threatened with lawsuits and will take the stolen content down, but the very next post will be stolen from someone else. Yours is the very next she’s stolen, and you can find it here:

She will change names, change locations, but the words are obviously yours, uncredited, she’s posted it as if it came from her own mind. There is a blog, fishcreekhousewatch.com devoted to exposing some of her thievery, but it’d be a full time job tracing it all and notifying, so I try to just note the newest people she steals from. You are the newest in a long line, sorry to say.
