My Furry Feline Bath Attendants

Date March 20, 2008

My husband calls me the crazy cat lady, due to the fact that the two furry little beasts pretty much follow me wherever I go. It’s not as bad as all that, since they sleep in different rooms during the day. And they really do their own thing for a lot of the day. I promise.

But one surefire way to get both of them to shadow me is to take a bath. And I loooooovvveee taking baths.

Bath Attendant Cats

From the day we brought each of them home, they both come running when they hear the water start to pour. Usually, Luna has the “throne” and Rooney is curled up on the bath mat. Today, Rooney beat Luna to the coveted spot on the toilet. But I think she’s happy has long as she maintains a higher position. What a diva.

Luna learned a hard lesson when she was young: the edge of the tub is slippery and dang, that water is wet! She used to walk around on the edge while it was full. And it took her falling into the tub three times before she learned her lesson.

Rooney on the other hand, still walks on the edge, laps at the water, bats at my toes, and tries to climb on me.

Until today when he too fell in. Head first.

He was quite shocked. And rotten mom that I am just laughed at him.

My cats do the same thing. It doesn’t matter if it is the bath or shower but they hear that water and come running. I have not idea what the attraction is. lol

Oh Gosh, I’ll go under to rinse my hair and pop up to see two dogs and several kitties staring at me. The dogs will open the door to get in. The cats follow. The cats will bat at the bubbles and the border collie will wait for me to squirt the bath water through my hands and chase it. It’s weird! And really only with me, not Steve. Maybe it’s a mommy thing…LOL

Oh Jackie! I have to stay thank you. You helped bring back a memory of a great cat that owned me as a teenager. He was a HUGE (looking back I think he had to be part Maine Coon cat… He could stand on his hind legs and reach up past my hips- and since i have a rather long inseam- 36″- thats a stretch!)

ANYWAYS- tigger would hang out in the shower with me. When he was a little kitten, he would wedge himself under the bathroom door to get in the shower with me. I will never be able to forget when Tigger found out he was too big to fit under the door any longer…hehe… He let out this YOWL… Boy was he P*SSED!!! Had his bright orange head stuck under the door, growling and grumbling the whole time. I had to get out of the shower and shove him back under the door, then open the door and let him in…. Goofball cat.

I have never had another cat quite like Tigger was. These days, having a cat in the house would just be a bit too much, so I have to rely on memory. (Yeah, right…lol)

Thanks for sharing your felines Jackie!

Haha! Thanks all for sharing your cat stories. These two are the first cats I’ve had, and they just crack me up. I never knew how funny cats could be. All of our married friends who don’t have kids have cats, and they are all we talk about sometimes. Really, I guess animals in general are just a lot of fun. They all have such different personalities.

LOL! I can relate to the “crazy cat lady” title. I’m the only person who can sit down and have EVERY SINGLE ONE of our cats (7 total) all hanging on/around me. I’ll always have two on my lap (one for each leg)…at least one on one of my shoulders and one with their nose in my face…and several laying on either side of me and at my feet. And the reaction (in other words…dirty looks) I get from my husband is priceless as he sits on the other couch and not a single one of them could give a rat’s patoot about what he’s doing or the fact that he’s sitting on a couch as well and has an open lap, shoulder, etc…LOL! LOVE cats! :)

We used to have cats when we were kids, but haven’t had any recently, my son is so allergic to them I was told he couldn’t even be in a house that used to have cats or he would have an asthma attack. There is one wild cat that hangs around down at the pond and just watches the geese. Wonder what he’s thinking.
