Watch 2010 World Equestrian Games Television Coverage on NBC
With the World Equestrian Games just 9 days away, I’m getting quite antsy to know what broadcasts will be available on television and online for the week I won’t get to be there. It seems like there’s going to be more coverage than is currently scheduled officially and publicly, but it hasn’t been nailed down just yet.
Here’s what we know so far about when and where you can watch the World Equestrian Games on television…
WEG Television Coverage on NBC
NBC has the exclusive for airing WEG, at least here in the States. They’ve been making a big deal about how it’s more television coverage than WEG has ever gotten in years past! Yes, folks, we are getting a total of 6.5 hours of television coverage on NBC. Here’s the official schedule:
- Sunday, September 26 at 12-1:30pm EST (opening ceremonies, team reining)
- Sunday, October 2 at 1-6pm EST (eventing cross country and jumping phases)
- Sunday, October 10 at 4-6pm (show jumping, closing ceremony)
On the first Sunday, the reining team competition will be aired live with commentator Aaron Ralston, a reiner who happened to be on the gold-medal winning team and the individual bronze medalist at the 2006 WEG. America’s Horse Daily has the full scoop on the reining coverage. Reining will be included in all three broadcasts. I would expect we’ll also see some eventing and show jumping highlights, as they are the more popular spectator sports. Especially since the popularity of NBC’s Rolex 3Day coverage is a big part of the reason they agreed to devote so much air time to WEG.
And note, too, that while NBC is airing the Games, they are not producing or covering it themselves. The WEG Foundation had to buy the air time and do the producing themselves. However, that does allow them to get the advertising dollars for the commercials aired during the broadcast.

it’s pretty sad that 58 countries will be participating in this one-time in 4 years’ equestrian olympics and there is so little televised coverage available to the masses around the globe, especially in the USA! The popularity of the 3-day Rolex event and events covered during the olympics have certainly demonstrated that viewers will tune in and enjoy the beauty and agility of these animals and their riders!
I agree, its so pathetic. The last WEG were highly televised but in Canada we had to subscribe to a certain channel. I can’t even find any Canadian TV coverage yet.
I don’t compete in vaulting but really love watching it and I’m pretty disappointed that NBC won’t cover it. I mean come on it’s the Olympics of the Horse World and they are only going to show a fraction of the events. This isn’t the first time I was very disappointed in NBC’s coverage of things.
No dressage coverage…..sigh…guess I’ll have to move to Europe.
And nothing is showing paradressage? This is the first time it will be an event in the WEG and they aren’t even going to show it?
WTF – no Team Vaulting? What is the matter with these people? Did the sponsors of the show jumpers pay off NBC? And what about Dressage, Eventing, Reining, Driving,…?
I just subscribed to FEI TV to watch the dressage as they are saying they have live on demand coverage of WEG – I have been informed that it is not live and not all of it will be covered. Highly unfortunate.
Just found on another site that on Sunday Oct. 3 they will show the Freestyle Dressage on NBC and a recap of the past week. But I’m really ecstatic about the dressage.
The TV coverage for Canada SUCKS – last WEG at last Bold TV covered almost all of it, 6 -7 hours a day, what NBC is giving us is patheric, where do we write or call to complain?
If anyone finds out anything about paradressage coverage…..please post!!!
[...] If you happen to live in the US, finding the games on TV is a bit difficult. NBC has the official rights to air the games, and has around six and a half hours planned – but only on Sundays. One Sunday of coverage has already passed, but October 2nd, from 1 -6 EST, they will air eventing cross country and jumping phases and on October 1oth, from 4-6 EST, show jumping and the closing ceremonies. Much more of the games will be broadcast on Universal Sports. For a more detailed schedule and more information check out Regarding Horses. [...]
Yet every time I turn the channel, there’s a rerun…. WEG deserves a lot more credit than this.
Obviously the TV coverage rights of the WEG has been granted to the wrong channel/company. I guess nobody there has an interest in horse sports than most of us do! Why did they bother to even ask for the rights? The chance of s beautiful family TV watching only once in 4 year has been totally missed for millions of interested North Americans. We have to wait 4 years now and hope for another channel to do a beter job. Shame on you, NBC !
So disappointed there is so little coverage in Canada. With our team doing well and Eric always exciting to watch, it is a shame.
Come on CBC/BOLD; this is a big event and deserves coverage.
No coverage in Canada or the US as far as I could tell. Too bad since this is the first time such an event has been held outside Europe. What happened???
I have a very ineresting story. I wrked in the firm Nobel corporation that sells filters for water perification. Many people are deceived because they do not have clean water and that they are promised by the Prize. In my area about 75 families cheated. About this with you I have evidence. Many people have paid the 200 euros because they feared a lawsuit did not buy a filter. Many times I ve seen all sorts of scams so I was fired without his earned money. Many people do not know that are victims of fraud.
I decided to tell this whole World.
