2010 US World Equestrian Games Reining Team
There’s no doubt that the US is the powerhouse in residence when it comes to World Equestrian Games reining teams. With both the team gold and individual silver and bronze in Aachen in 2006 and several WEG veterans, they are for sure the riders to beat. Here are the men of reining and their fabulous horses who will be representing the US at WEG next weekend.
Shawn Flarida and RC Fancy Step
If the US is the royalty of reining, Shawn Flarida is the king. He’s a WEG gold medalist already and is also the most decorated reiner in NRHA history. Most recently he won back-to-back championships in the NRHA Futurity and NRHA Derby, followed by a win in the USEF Open Reining Championship. He’ll be aboard the 6-year-old palomino stallion RC Fancy Step.
Tim McQuay and Hollywoodstinseltown
Tim McQuay anchored the 2006 WEG reining team, and brought home a team gold and individual silver to show for it. He’s a Hall of Famer as well as the most experienced rider on the team. His 6-year-old stallion is Hollywoodtinseltown, owned by David Silva, Jr.
Craig Schmersal and Boom Schernic
Craig Shmersal is yet another team member with WEG gold under his belt. And on top of that, he’s coming off of major wins in the National Reining Breeders Classic and the NRHA Derby Level 4 Open Championship, both aboard his WEG horse Boom Schernic.
Tom McCutcheon and Gunners Special Nite
Tom McCutcheon was on the 2002 WEG gold medal team. He’s coming to the games with Gunners Special Nite, a 6-year-old stallion who was the 2007 NRHA Futurity open reserve champion and intermediate open champion.
