2010 Equine Affaire Ohio Is Right Around the Corner

One of my favorite weekends of the entire year is FINALLY just around the corner: Equine Affaire Ohio!
I started attending Equine Affaire about 5 years ago, and now I never miss a year. I have an aunt who lives just north of Columbus, so I stay with her and head down to the Ohio Expo Center from the time the gates open till they close.
Why do I love Equine Affaire so much?
Because I love learning about horses and improving my understanding and skills. I’ve learned all kinds of wonderful things …

Templeton Thompson: Must Hear Country Singer & Horse Woman

I recently had the very distinct pleasure of meeting Templeton Thompson and attending a fantastic acoustic concert at the Thoroughbred Theater with her and her husband Sam Gay. If you (like I unfortunately wasn’t) aren’t familiar with Templeton and her music, you NEED to read on, listen, and get to know this wonderful horsewoman and country music artist.
Templeton is a country singer and songwriter. Besides writing and performing her own music, she has also written and sung back-up vocals for country greats like Reba McIntyre, Jo Dee Messina, and Little …

Christmas Tributes To Horses And Those Who Love Them

Two plus years ago when I started this blog, there was really only a small handful of active equestrian bloggers. Quite a few others started around the same time I did – and like Mrs Mom from OhHorseFeathers and OnTheBit – have become great friends. And our little corner of the world has since exploded with horsey writers of all backgrounds, locations, disciplines, philosophies, and personalities. No matter what we write about, though, we are all bonded together by our love of horses.
This week has been a particularly poignant one …

Make Christmas Extra Special With Personalized Photo Gifts For Horse Lovers

If you have a horse lover in your life, you know that just about any Christmas gift that is horsey related is a big hit … even if it’s just an extra large bag of carrots for her horse. Fancy halters, pretty saddle pads, soft riding gloves, and warm socks always work too. But if you want to do something a little more special this year, consider creating a personalized horse gift at My Hoof Pics.
I first learned about this new website when it’s owner Cheryl emailed to see if …

Favorite Horse Stock Photography Websites

If you are like most other horse people, not much catches your attention like anything horsey … especially a great photo. I’m always looking for great horse pictures. Sometimes I need them for more formal uses, like in designing a print piece or logo, sometimes I need them to illustrate blog posts here on Regarding Horses, and sometimes I just want something cool to use as a desktop background on my laptop or BlackBerry.
And unless you know where to look, it’s not always easy to find that perfect horse photo …

Is My Horse Worth Insuring?

Since I bought my first horse nearly a year ago, I’ve suddenly found myself wondering about equine insurance and if it applies to me. It’s relatively obvious that high-dollar horses like Kentucky Derby winners or Olympic-caliber show jumpers should be insured.
But what about my pet who I bought for comparative pennies and ride for fun, maybe hitting up a few local shows every now and then? Is investing in equine insurance worth it for me? And if it is, what are my options?
Why you might consider equine insurance

Top 5 Tips for Shortening Your Horse’s Mane

I am a perfectionist through and through (I could do a perfect hunter tail braid at the age of 12 due to lots of practice and sheer will power). The perfectionist in me wants to have a heart attack not only if my horse Ace’s mane is getting too long, but when it comes time to make that first cut.
Once you get started trimming your horse’s mane, you’re committed. It’s so difficult to make it even but natural looking, short enough without getting too short, parallel with the slope of …
